City on verge of £8m Delph deal – Report

City have met the release clause in Delph’s Villa deal and are now set to sign him on a long-term contract worth £100,000 a week, according to Goal.

City are keen to add more homegrown players to their squad this summer, and Delph is effectively a replacement for James Milner, who has joined Liverpool on a free transfer.

Delph, 25, is said to have been told he will be a squad player but afforded a similar level of first-team opportunities as his England team-mate, who made 18 starts and 14 substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

Villa have already moved to replace Delph after having a £9million offer accepted for Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye, who spent Thursday in contract negotiations with the Midlanders.

Villa are also reported to have also enquired about Anderlecht’s Dennis Praet.
