Nathaniel Clyne: Happy with life

Nathaniel Clyne says Liverpool have the best squad he has been involved and joked that “even Milner is scoring”.

Clyne has started all six Premier League games this season at right-back and Liverpool sit fourth in the table after picking up 13 points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have already earned the scalps of Arsenal and Chelsea away from home, as well as hammering Leicester at Anfield and hopes are high at Anfield they can mount a serious challenge for the title.

“It is a long way, we are going to keep fighting for it [the title],” Clyne told Goal at the launch of EA SPORTS FIFA 17.

“We can only focus on ourselves. We don’t look to any other teams and we go into every game trying to win, that’s the main thing. We are just focusing on every game that comes, the next game and we will see where we finish.

“I’ll just say we have got a good team, we are confident in what we are doing right now. It is a team game at the end of the day. Our game isn’t about individuals.

“It is the best squad I have been involved in. The new players we have got in, everyone has done really well, gelled really well. We have a good team spirit going on and it is like we have been playing together for a long time. Everything seems to be clicking and it is good.

“We are doing really, really well. We are looking for more of the same, it is a long season and we just need to keep fighting and playing well.

“There’s so much quality around the squad, you look around the dressing room at the players we have got and there is so much ability. We are getting goals from all over the pitch and even Milner is scoring despite playing at left-back! It is a joy to watch Phil Coutinho, Mane, Sturridge and Lallana and Firmino, they are all playing well and it is going well.”

James Milner: Scored twice from the spot

The 25-year-old England full-back has though denied that he is in the best shape of his career.

He added: “I would say that [I am in the best shape of my career], I am in good shape, I am staying injury free and hopefully I can keep playing well.

“Yes, I have managed to nail my spot down at right-back and I’ve been playing pretty much all the games and I have been doing really well.

“I am happy with all my performances in the games and we are doing really well as a team, we are firing on all cylinders and we are looking good.”
