French striker Anthony Modeste almost made the move to Arsenal in 2012, according to a report.
The 28-year-old Cologne star, who has been linked with the club in the last 24 hours, apparently came close to signing for Arsene Wenger four years ago and Calciomercato claim the collapse of the move is his “one big regret”.
Modeste, who has scored 11 goals in 11 Bundesliga games this season, was on loan at Blackburn from Bordeaux and made nine appearances and was reportedly on the radar of the the Gunners.
The Cannes-born forward arrived in Germany last year and he almost left the Bundesliga in the summer to head to the lucrative Super League in China, but chose to remain in Germany due to the ill-health of his son.
“Family is the most important thing and I play football for them,” he said recently.
Modeste, whose family originate from Martinique, is reportedly back on the radar of the Gunners, according to a little-known Spanish website called Espiritu Deportivo.
The report claims Wenger is keen on signing the player, who has failed to score in just two of his 11 appearances this season, in the new year, with Arsene Wenger said to be determined to sign a striker.
Big names like Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani continue to be linked with the Gunners, but a signing like Modeste would be classic Wenger.
