Thibaut Courtois has revealed he was left “angry” after Eden Hazard’s antics for Belgium on Monday night.
Chelsea star Hazard, who scored the sixth goal, started showboating in the 6-0 win over Gibraltar and goalkeeper Courtois believed his indiscretions risked his clean sheet.
“I was angry with Eden Hazard because he tried a backheel in a part of the pitch where he shouldn’t have,” the goalkeeper told reporters.
“I absolutely wanted to keep a clean sheet. I yelled so everyone understood that we had to stay sharp. We had little to gain here.
“We showed we respected our opponent. We have one-and-a-half more years to improve and be ready for the World Cup. ”
Christian Benteke set Belgium on their way with a goal after seven seconds – a record in World Cup qualifying – before finishing the match with a hat-trick.
Benteke beat the previous record of 8.3 seconds, set by San Marino’s Davide Gualtieri against England in 1993.
Belgium doubled their advantage through Axel Witsel’s deflected long-range effort before Benteke added his second just before the break.
Dries Mertens got on the scoresheet six minutes after the break with Benteke completing his hat-trick shortly after with a lovely flick while Hazard completed the rout on 79 minutes.
