Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Philippe Coutinho is in contention for the Capital One Cup quarter-final clash with Southampton on Wednesday.
The Brazilian injured his hamstring in the win at Manchester City last weekend and was not risked by Klopp for Sunday’s 1-0 win over Swansea at Anfield.
But Klopp says the playmaker is “ready” for the match at St Mary’s as the Reds strive to reach the last four of a competition they have won eight times in the past.
“Philippe had a very intensive session on Saturday but we decided two or three days ago that we didn’t want to risk [him] for this game,” Klopp said.
“Now I think he’s fit. I think he’s ready for Southampton.”
