Crystal Palace launch £16m bid for unwanted Arsenal star

Calum Chambers: Set to leave Arsenal on loan

Crystal Palace have reportedly contacted Arsenal with a £16million offer for defender Calum Chambers.

The defender has been told he can leave the Gunners this summer and looks to be one of several stars to exit the Emirates this summer with a number of their players also expected to go.

With Olivier Giroud attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Marseille, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is currently also finalising a £10million move to Juventus, West Brom hope to sign Kieran Gibbs and striker Lucas Perez is the subject of interest from clubs in Spain and Turkey.

But Chambers could beat them all to the exit door, with the Daily Telegraph claiming Palace having launched a £16million offer for his services – a bid of which is likely to be accepted.

Chambers enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Middlesbrough last season, but has been told he can leave after struggling to find a definitive role during his time at Arsenal.

Calum Chambers: Opened the scoring

The England Under-21 defender has played full-back, central midfield and centre-back and, while technically accomplished, there have been questions about his pace or physical presence in those positions.

And it now seems he’ll likely make the move across London to join Frank de Boer’s side and he’ll hope his game can progress under the tutorship of the Dutchman.

Chambers signed from Southampton in a £16million deal three years ago and it set to be joined at Palace by both Bruno Martins Indi and Jairo Riedewald.
