Danny Murphy says unsettled Chelsea defender Gary Cahill would be the perfect signing for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Earlier in the week Reuters claimed a source close to Cahill has said the 30-year-old is so worried about missing out on a place in England’s Euro 2016 side that he would welcome the chance of a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Cahill has fallen out of favour with interim manager Guus Hiddink and he has not played in the Premier League since Boxing Day.
And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy believes the England vice-captain would solve Liverpool’s defensive frailties.
“Would he suit Liverpool? Would he be a player that gets into the Liverpool team and make a difference? Yes, he would,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
“He’s a terrific lad, a good pro, a good trainer and not a moaner or a whinger.
“He’s a winner and every time I see him play I think he’d die for the team, he gives it everything he’s got. If he does become available, there a few clubs would pay good money for him.”
