De Gea joins new boys on United flight

Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin trained with their new team-mates for the first time on Monday after completing their transfers from Bayern Munich and Southampton earlier in the day.

De Gea was also on the flight despite Real Madrid’s ongoing interest, but Victor Valdes was not included, with his absence left unexplained by United.

Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin became the club’s third and fourth signings of the summer following the earlier captures of Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian – and reports suggest Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is Louis van Gaal’s next target.

Van Gaal also wants to sign a new centre-half, with Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi reported to be his preferred choice if United are unable to agree a deal with Real for De Gea that involves Sergio Ramos moving to Old Trafford.
