Deeney at the double for Saddlers

The visitors took a shock lead inside two minutes when Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince failed to hold a cross from the lively Scott McGleish and Ryan Jarvis was on the spot to turn the ball over the line.

It was even worse for the Saddlers after 29 minutes when another good run by McGleish saw his deflected cross reach Orient’s central defender Tamika Mkandawire who doubled the advantage from point-blank range.

Walsall were so poor they could not argue with that situation but words from their manager Chris Hutchings at half-time obviously made an impact and within 13 seconds of the second half starting, Peter Till crossed for Troy Deeney to head a fine goal.

Then after 57 minutes another cross was headed back by Darren Byfield for Deeney to drive home his eighth goal of the season.

Walsall squandered a chance to win it eight minutes from the end with Byfield, clean through, lobbing the ball gently into the hands of Orient keeper Jamie Jones.
