Leaked documents reveal that Memphis Depay will take a wage cut of over £1million if the winger remains at Manchester United next season.
Depay’s contract, which has emerged on website Football Leaks, shows that the 22-year-old will earn £5.2million at Old Trafford this term.
However, the Holland international will earn £3.9million from next season – a wage cut of £1.3million.
Depay has flattered to deceive since joining the Red Devils from PSV Eindhoven in a £25million deal last summer, scoring only seven goals in all competitions and often finding himself out of Louis van Gaal’s starting XI.
A number of former Holland players have questioned the attacker’s commitment, with Willem van Hanegem likening Depay to a “bond villain”.
While the former PSV man has struggled this season, should his performances improved next term, then a number of bonuses could see Depay earn over his current wage.
If United, who are one point outside of the top four, qualify for the Champions League, Depay’s wage will increase by £1.3million for every season they are in the competition.
Meanwhile, the winger will receive a one-0ff payment of £500,000 if he is still at Old Trafford in September 2018.
And should Depay follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and win the Ballon d’Or, he will earn £1million, with £500,000 for coming inside the top three and £100,000 for making it onto the shortlist.
