Digby deserving of England call

Paul Digby has been called up to the England Under-19 squad for their next game against Estonia on September 15th, and I could not be more thrilled for the lad.

Diggers made his debut for the Reds as a 16-year-old against Derby County in 2011 and has had rave reviews ever since.

Last season he suffered a bad knee injury and underwent growing pains treatment abroad which kept him out for the entire campaign, however in this pre-season’s friendly matches he impressed and deserved his starting berth against Blackpool last week.

Although he is still not fully fit to complete 90 minutes I felt he more than held his own against the Seasiders and didn’t put a foot wrong. He always wants the ball, looks confident with it every time, and his attitude towards the game and the way it should be played is second to none.

I firmly believe that if he can stay clear of injury that he will not only be one of our most consistent performers this season but will follow in the footsteps of John Stones and be scouted by several Premier League teams.

With it being his first call up to represent his country I am not sure whether he will feature in next month’s game, however he says he is determined to enjoy the experience no matter what and I am sure I am not alone in wishing him the best of luck.
