Rennes midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is undergoing a medical at Watford after the two clubs agreed an £8million fee.
Doucoure arrived at the club’s training ground to complete the formalities of a transfer, with the Hornets said to be paying around £8million for the 23-year-old.
The former France Under-21 international was an unused substitute for Rennes during their 4-0 defeat to Bordeaux yesterday.
Doucoure would be the clubs fifth signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of Nordin Amrabat, Costel Pantilimon and Mario Suarez.
The signing of Doucoure is likely to draw a line under Quique Sanchez Flores’s recruitment for the winter. The Hornets have been trying to do a deal for Liverpool youngster Jerome Sinclair but that interest is likely to be shelved until the summer.
