Dundee United manager Peter Houston will assess his squad for the opener against Hibs following their 2-2 draw with Dinamo Moscow.

Defender Brian McLean, winger Michael Gardyne and former Falkirk midfielder Mark Millar are all pushing for their debuts after staying on the bench in the Europa League clash.

Goalkeeper Filip Mentel and striker Milos Lacny remain on the long-term injury list.

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon has only one injury to contend with as he takes his side to Tannadice.

Winger Danny Galbraith (groin) is the only player missing from Fenlon’s squad, which was slashed over the summer with a raft of players departing Easter Road with the club not having the finances available to bring in the same numbers.

All of Fenlon’s new signings are in contention to make their competitive debuts with Tim Clancy, Paul Cairney and Ben Williams all looking to impress at the start of their respective Hibs careers.

Dundee United (from): Cierzniak, Watson, Dillon, Gunning, McLean, Douglas, Flood, Rankin, Ryan, Mackay-Steven, Russell, Daly, Dow, Armstrong, Millar, Gardyne, Robertson, Banks.

Hibernian (from): Williams, Clancy, Booth, Hanlon, McPake, O’Hanlon, Stephens, Kujabi, Smith, Claros, Cairney, Wotherspoon, Sproule, Stevenson, Stanton, Griffiths, Doyle, Caldwell, Grant.

Dundee United are boosted by the return of Jon Daly and Scott Robertson from suspension.

The pair missed Wednesday’s draw with St Mirren after being sent off against Kilmarnock but will be reinstated to Peter Houston’s side.

United have a doubt over Morgaro Gomis, who picked up a knock in training on Friday, but they are optimistic he will make it.

Darren Dods (knee), Scott Severin (ankle), Danny Swanson (back) and Paul Dixon (calf) are all out.

Martin Scott, Matt Thornhill and Victor Palsson could make their Hibernian debuts in the game.

Midfielder Scott, who signed from Ross County, missed the midweek loss to Rangers through suspension and former Nottingham Forest midfielder Matt Thornhill was not risked following a recent ankle injury.

Midfielder Palsson was set to complete a loan move from Liverpool later on Friday, with Hibs hoping to secure his registration by the 5pm deadline, while Kevin McCann, who has returned from a loan spell with Inverness with an injured knee, is the only definite absentee.

Dundee United (from): Pernis, Dillon, Kenneth, Watson, Douglas, Gomis, Conway, Buaben, Armstrong, S Robertson, D Robertson, Conway, Daly, Goodwillie, Russell, Banks, Dow, Smith.

Hibs (from): Stack, Hart, Hogg, Murray, Zemmama, De Graaf, Nish, Riordan, Rankin, Dickoh, Thicot, Stevenson, McBride, Duffy, Hanlon, Smith, Galbraith, Trakys, Wotherspoon, Thornhill, Brown, Miller, Towell, Scott, Palsson.

Colin Nish is not expected to recover from his ankle injury in order to feature for Hibs.

Striker Nish suffered the injury in scoring during last Saturday’s 4-2 loss at Aberdeen in Colin Calderwood’s first match in charge.

David Wotherspoon is rated 50-50 for the match at Tannadice, with Graham Stack (back), Darryl Duffy (metatarsal) and Merouane Zemmama (knee) still out.

Midfielder Danny Swanson will return to the Terrors squad as they seek to end a run of three straight defeats.

Swanson has made one four-minute appearance this season due to sciatica in his back, but he could come off the bench at Tannadice tomorrow.

Craig Conway, Scott Severin, Darren Dods and Mihael Kovacevic are all struggling to be fit as United seek to bounce back from defeat to Celtic and two successive losses to Motherwell.

United (from): Pernis, Dillon, Watson, Kenneth, Severin, Dixon, Douglas, Gomis, D Robertson, S Robertson, Buaben, Conway, Goodwillie, Daly, Cadamarteri, Shala, Russell, Hill, Dow, Banks, Kovacevic.
