Southgate to gamble on 3-4-3 as England team is leaked

The England line-up for tonight’s friendly with Germany has been leaked and there are a few shock inclusions in a 3-4-3 formation.

The Telegraph claimed that Gareth Southgate “had kept his team for the friendly a closely-guarded secret, refusing to even tell his players the line-up on Tuesday night so it did not leak”.

That failed as Paul Joyce of The Times revealed an England side that features a first cap for Michael Keane, alongside Chris Smalling and captain Gary Cahill.

West Brom battler Jake Livermore will start against Joachim Low’s men for this first time since his debut in a friendly against Italy in August 2012. He will be partnered by Eric Dier in the middle with Ryan Betrand and Kyle Walker offering the width.

Adam Lallana will play wide right further forward  rather than in the central role in which he has performed so well for Liverpool and Dele Alli will be shoved out wide in the absence of  injured Raheem Sterling.Up front Jamie Vardy will lead the line with Harry Kane missing

It’s a formation that will be new to all of Cahill, Dier, Walker and Alli.

Interesting.
