Barcelona are inching ahead of Liverpool for a top defensive target, while Spurs, Newcastle, Everton and West Ham have been linked with a Spain striker, according to Monday’s European papers.
BARCELONA MAKE FIRST MOVE FOR LIVERPOOL DEFENSIVE TARGET
Liverpool face a battle to sign Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet after reports in Spain suggested Barcelona were planning to make a formal approach.
The 22-year-old French defender has seen his stock rise this season on the back of Sevilla’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals, with their progress eventually halted by Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have been credited with an interest in the star and it’s claimed Jurgen Klopp is weighing up an approach to partner the 6ft 2in star with Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the Reds’ defence next season.
But according to Diario AS, Barcelona are hoping to trump Liverpool by planning to meet the player’s €45million (£38.9million) exit clause. It’s suggested talks could take place as soon as this weekend for a player who will line up against Barca in the Copa del Rey final.
There has been some speculation over Samuel Umtiti’s future at the Nou Camp and it is not know if Lenglet is seen as a potential replacement by Barca.
Lenglet joined Sevilla in a bargain €5million deal from Nancy in January 2017, and has also been mentioned as a possible target for Real Madrid.
