Euro Paper Talk: Man City hoping to beat United to Real star

Manchester City are ready to steal a march on rivals United by signing a Real Madrid star, while an Arsenal target has hinted he could leave PSG, according to Friday’s European papers.

MAN UNITED TARGET UNLIKELY TO MAKE SERIE A RETURN

Manchester United could receive a boost in their bid to sign a new striker, with PSG star Edinson Cavani unlikely to make a return to Napoli this summer.

United have been strongly linked with a move for the prolific hitman, despite the 30-year-old recently signing a bumper new deal with the Ligue 1 side.

Rumours were also rife that Cavani, who has scored 47 goals this season, could return to Serie A but Monica Scozzafava, a Corriere del Mezzogiorno journalist and someone who is close to the Uruguayan, has poured cold water on the discussions, as reported by Calciomercato.

“I often talk to him, I can confirm that El Matador is very close to the city of Naples, but I don’t think that a return there is possible,” Scozzafava told Radio Punto Zero.

“He’s recently signed a new deal with PSG, and the numbers are big.

“He could reach an agreement with Aurelio Di Laurentiis [Napoli’s owner], but the fans have changed their minds about him. I still remember that they whistled him when he was sold [to PSG in 2013, for €64 million], and Edi didn’t take it well”.

ARSENAL TARGET NOT KEEN ON RENEWING PSG DEAL

Arsenal target Adrien Rabiot is reportedly not too keen to extend his current deal with French giants PSG.

The 21-year-old’s existing contract runs out in 2019 and it is also rumoured that PSG are ready to cash in on the player this summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the defensive midfielder, who was once linked with a switch to north London rivals Tottenham, while Juventus and Roma are both said to be monitoring his situation.

The reasons for Rabiot reportedly wanting to leave stem from a desire to play a more attacking role at the Ligue 1 club, while current PSG chief Unai Emery firmly believes he should remain as a holding player, according to the report in Calciomercato, via l’Equipe.
