Manchester United scouts were at Lazio v Napoli last weekend watching two stars, while Juventus and Barcelona are ready to do battle for a PSG midfielder, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

MAN UNITED SCOUTS TAKE IN LAZIO-NAPOLI CLASH

Manchester United scouts were reportedly in Rome on Sunday to watch Napoli star Dries Mertens and Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Napoli ran out 3-0 winners at the Olympic Stadium, with the prolific Lorenzo Insigne bagging a brace, but Belgium forward Mertens impressed again and is said to be a serious attacking option for United boss Jose Mourinho.

The 29-year-old is out of contract next summer and is rumoured to be keen on a move to the Premier League, where so many of his international team-mates ply their trade, according to Gazzamercato.

As for Milinkovic-Savic, the 22-year-old central midfielder is valued at around £25m by Lazio and has been watched all season by United scouts with a view to a summer bid.

JUVE AND BARCA TO BATTLE FOR PSG STAR

Juventus and Barcelona are reportedly set to battle it out in the summer for the signing of Marco Verratti.

The PSG midfielder has long been linked with a move to the Premier League but it would seem that Juve and Barca have stolen a march on their rivals in England and will go head-to-head in the race to snap up the 24-year-old, according to Corriere dello Sport

The Italy international has come in for some criticism from the French media this season and is looking for a move away, although it would cost in the region of £75m to convince PSG to sell.
