Stoke forward Marko Arnautovic is reportedly on the verge of moving to Everton after the Toffees activated the £12.5million release clause in the Austrian’s contract.
The 27-year-old has only a year left on his deal at the Britannia Stadium and the Potters had been in talks with him over a new deal and in a bid to raise his exit clause.
The player has admitted that the move to Stoke has “saved his career” – but it seems Arnautovic is ready to depart the Potteries and make the move to Merseyside, with Sky Sports Austria claiming the deal is close to completion.
New Everton manager Ronald Koeman is looking to bolster his forward options and Arnautovic could be his first major signing since moving to Goodison Park from Southampton.
Arnautovic’s departure could pave the way for a renewed Stoke bid for West Brom forward Saido Berahino. The Potters saw a £20m bid last week fail to tempt the Baggies.
