Roberto Martinez has praised his current Everton squad as one of the strongest he has ever managed during his time at Goodison Park.
The Toffees sit 7th in the Premier League table after their famous 3-1 victory over Chelsea, with the 2-0 reverse against undefeated Manchester City representing their only defeat so far this campaign.
This follows a disappointing season at Goodison Park in which they finished 11th, but Martinez feels his squad are returning to the sort of form which saw them finish 5th in the 2013/14 Premier League season.
“We knew the first 10 fixtures would be very challenging, sometimes you get that with the draw of the fixture list, we found out a lot about ourselves,” the Spaniard told a press conference.
“We look forward to being tested and seeing if we can carry on the standards for the rest of the season from the performances of Southampton away and Chelsea at home.
“I feel we have a winning squad. They are hungry and desperate for success, desperate to push each other, the competition I have for places is not something I have had before.”
