Wayne Rooney: In demand this summer

West Ham would reportedly be interested in rivalling Everton to sign Wayne Rooney this summer should Manchester United let him leave.

Rooney has become a peripheral figure under new boss Jose Mourinho after a steady decline in his productivity in recent years.

He is still under contract until 2019, but has repeatedly been linked with possible moves to China and the MLS and the Red Devils are unlikely to stand in his way should he wish to move on at the end of the season.

That is sure to alert clubs in the Premier League, too, with former club Everton expressing an interest.

Now, Sky Sports claim a ‘senior source’ close to the Hammers has indicated to them that they’d throw their hats into the ring to sign Rooney should the opportunity present itself.

However, despite those reports, many journalists and news outlets remain convinced that Everton is his most likely summer destination, with a free transfer even not out of the question.
