TEAMtalk understand Southend United have agreed a deal to land Scottish full-back Stephen Hendrie, beating a host of clubs to his signature.
The 22-year-old is a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his deal at West Ham United.
Hendrie was snapped up by West Ham in January 2015 after impressing for Hamilton and was loaned out to both Blackburn and Southend before leaving.
A number of clubs in the Scottish top-flight had made approaches, but Phil Brown has worked hard to convince Hendrie to return to Roots Hall – where he enjoyed a loan spell with the club in 2016.
TEAMtalk understands Hendrie is now due to put pen-to-paper with the Shrimpers before the weekend.
