Southend have rejected a bid for highly-rated full-back Ben Coker, according to TEAMtalk sources.
According to the source, Championship side Reading are the ones who have had an undisclosed bid rejected for the 27-year-old defender as they look to prepare for the new season and a possible promotion push.
Coker, who suffers from type 1 diabetes, signed for Southend back in 2013 after stints at Histon, Colchester and Bury.
He spent two seasons at Bury betwen the years of 2008 and 2010 and made 66 appearances for the club along with notching 17 goals as well.
After spending two seasons at Bury, Coker went on to sign for Colchester United in 2010 and then Histon in 2013 but failed to make the desired impact with either club.
He eventually signed with Southend and since signing for the club the full-back has gone on to make 117 appearances for the club along and scored four goals. Coker had some injury worries in the latter part of the season though after undergoing surgery to fix a groin problem twice.
