FC Midtjylland full-back Andre Romer says Memphis Depay was so good against him on Thursday that facing him left him “close to crying”.
Romer was tasked with shackling – or attempting to shackle – Dutch winger Depay in the Europa League last 32 second leg at Old Trafford, but failed miserably.
Depay scored once in a man of the match performance in the 5-1 victory, and was a constant torment to the Danish side’s defence.
A difficult evening for Romer was complete when he was sent off for a second yellow card on 89 minutes – both of which were for fouls on Depay.
“I’ve never been so close to crying after a match as I was today,” said the right-back. “Memphis is the best player I have ever faced. It was difficult to do anything about it when he plays like that.
“He is the best. He can do anything. He went inside, outside, turned me around and used his incredible pace to get past me.”
