Jurgen Klopp: Backed to lead Liverpool to a top-four finish

Almost 40% of Premier League fans believe Liverpool will beat Tottenham to the fourth Champions League spot, according to the results of a poll.

Chelsea are facing a huge battle to even qualify for Europe next season having lost seven of their first 12 games in the Premier League. The struggles of the defending champions looks certain to open the door for a new club to secure a top-four place – and 39% of the 62,798 voters participating in 90min’s latest poll believe Liverpool are in the perfect position to capitalise.

Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool to a 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month – thanks to two goals from Philippe Coutinho and one from Christian Benteke – and it appears the German has done enough to convince supporters the Reds are on track for a Champions League return.

However, Liverpool only narrowly beat Tottenham in the poll, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side receiving a healthy 35% of the overall votes. Spurs are unbeaten since the opening day of the season and currently hold a four-point advantage over Liverpool in the table after 12 games.

Spurs are level on points with London rivals West Ham as it stands. And despite the fact that the Hammers have beaten the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in the opening weeks of the campaign, only 5% of supporters believe that Slaven Bilic’s side have enough steam to carry them through to the top four come the end of the season.

West Ham have this week lost influential new signing Dimitri Payet for three months, and given they’ve failed to win their last two games it appears as though they’ve lost their head of steam.

While Manchester United currently sit in fourth place, Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City picked up the other 21% of the overall vote, following their incredible start to the season. United are expected to push on and challenge Arsenal and Manchester City for the title, but the Foxes remain only one point off the pace going into November’s international break.

Over 12,000 voters believe Leicester have shown enough in the early part of the season to suggest they can maintain their form and remain in the top four, though they may be dependent on the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez continuing their outstanding form.

Nevertheless, Liverpool and Tottenham appear to be in the strongest position to capitalise on Chelsea’s demise, according to the supporters.
