‘Fabregas’ legs have gone’

Clearly Huddersfield will not come and attack us but look to contain for a point or hope for a set piece to trouble us

Personally I see no logic to play 5 across the middle but think that Bakayoko is improving so would keep him in the middle with Kante just to be sure we give nothing up. His driving runs from deep could also cause some problems. I would replace Fabregas with Willian or even try both Morata and Giroud up front

Fabregas legs are gone so he needs a rest so maybe come on as a late substitution if we need him.

Patience will be the key and taking any opportunities that come our way. I would love to say just go for it and look to improve the goal difference but I think even that is past us now so just get the 3 points and let fate decide….? KTBFFH

Fabregas on the bench next year

Agree on fabregas. The more games that goes by the more he add less to the team. He has decent (not amazing) passing range and some composure on the ball but that is literally it.

His lack of pace is so concerning, you can hadly believe your eyes sometimes when hes closer than the other man o the ball and still loses out.

Bakayoko – kante for me.

Then cesc as Super sub next season.

Spurs to bottle it?

Looking forward to tonight’s match vs Huddersfield which we should win and with Sp*rs playing Newcastle at the same time, things will be a lot clearer regarding top 4 aspirations.

They may well bottle it as Newcastle could definitely surprise. I will switch over for the last 15 minutes of Sp*rs Newcastle at the completion of Chelsea Huddersfield providing we win and chear on the Barcodes as they kick off 15 minutes after us.

Hazard under fire

Well the result last night has certainly cemented Huddersfields tactics tonight. A point from their last 2 games is enough (I think) and while I think they have a better chance against Arsenal they will want to come and make it tough

As I said previously, patience and composure will be required. We also need to be more creative and personally I would like to seem more shots taking place from the edge of the area to put the keeper under pressure and hope for any mistakes to be capitalised on

I do not think we can afford for Hazard to keep dwelling on the ball. He has the ability to beat anyone so simply up the pace of the game and take it to them. Teams like Huddersfield, based on their league position, should in theory crumble if consistent pressure is applied to their defence…? KTBFFH

Brighton away record looks poor

Slow week at work and seems like a very long week as I’m nervous about Sunday and the thought of not making top 4 so thought I’d have a look at Brighton’s away records, which has made me a bit more positive.

Brighton’s away record in the last 10 games is terrible, only Watford have a worse record. In the last 10 away games they haven’t won any (losing 6 and drawing 4). Gaining only 4 points from the last 30 available on the road.

In fact overall, Brighton’s 17 away games this season they only have 16 points from 51 available, winning only 2. Their last away win in the league was Swansea on 4th November.

Coupled with Liverpool’s unbeaten home record I do wonder why I’m so downbeat about our chances and expecting a 0-0.

Securing top 4 will be such a boost with a 2 week gap before Madrid to recharge a bit.

Man Utd midfield needs updating…

I don’t think anyone is in disagreement about the fact that our midfield is in sore need of upgrading this summer. Carrick is gone, although he’s barely been missed this season, Fellaini (hopefully) will go and Herrera could go also if reports are to be believed.

Now, we have McTomminay who is a good squad player, Pereira should come back from Valencia (although he is probably a squad player too), in the academy we have Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong who are both still young, 17 and 18 respectively.

So it’s looking like we need one, if not two starters, for the midfield. Ideally, who should we get?
Potential recruits have been listed as:
Fred
Jorginho
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (SMS)
Justin Kluivert
Toni Kroos
Ivan Rakitic
Sami Khedira
Who from this list sets the pulse racing, who would we as fans most like to see arrive? Should the age profile of the player affect our thinking? In other words should Kroos, Rakitic and Khedira be discounted immediately because they’re too bloody old?
Any one or two from Fred, Jorginho or SMS would make me happy

I’d take Kroos or SMS in a heartbeat, Fred, Jorginho are also good options.

Rakitic and Khedira are great players but on the older side and not players I’d like to see right now. Kluivert has loads of potential but still very young.

Sympathy for the Devils

Rakitic and Khedira way,way too old, especially for the PL!

Kroos ONLY if for a reasonable fee, otherwise too old too-unless signed for a maximum of 2 seasons.SMS and Jorginho any day of the week.JK far too young to have an impact right away, would consider Pjanic and Weigl instead.

Pogba and Matic ‘not consistent enough’

I think its urgent to change our midfield. Pogba and Matic are not consistent enough and i am far from sure they fit together.

Brighton played through our midfield with ease because we are not mobile enough in midfield. Pogba-Fellaini-Matic was a parody of midfield, they cant change direction quick enough against a relegation team like Brighton. We need at least two new cmf players and maybe three if Pogba leaves.

I hope to see quicker midfield players coming in but i doubt it when Mourinho favours players like Fellaini and Matic. I am afraid Mourinhos methods are outdated, simple as that.

Milinkovic-Savic to sign for United for ‘a ridiculous fee’

I think Matic, Pogba, Herrera and Fellaini are not leaving, so I expect one CM to come as Carrick replacement.

I expect it to be SMS for a ridiculous fee (£80-£90m). One thing is for sure we will never play for the big trophies if we keep signing and resigning the Fellaini’s of this world.

‘Warming’ to Vieira at Arsenal

While Vieira might not be my preferred choice as next manager, I’ve warmed to him a little after watching a clip where he sums Wenger up perfectly. Asked what Wenger’s strengths are, he says Wenger’s encouragement to players to make their own decisions on the pitch and not rely on instructions from the coach.

Asked what Wenger’s weaknesses are, he says it’s the very fact that he let’s players get on with it and never gives them “a kick up the arse” (his words).

That’s exactly how I’ve always put it. It’s why players like Paddy were so successful under Wenger – intelligent players that didn’t need a lot of instruction and responded well to their manager’s trust.

But Vieira was among a rare group of players. Most players today do need to be told what to do and do need a manager that will lay into them when needed. That’s what’s been missing from Arsenal for a long time – not quality players, which we have in abundance, but someone who will give them direction and a rollicking when necessary.

Still wary of Vieira’s managerial record though (or lack of one). There are some glowing reports about what he’s done in the MLS but he’s never finished above 2nd, in a league with only 11 teams and all of vastly inferior quality to the PL.

I do like the idea of a younger, long-term manager coming in and for me, someone like the Hoffenheim coach would be preferable, as he at least has experience of managing in a top league.
