Louis van Gaal’s dwindling support at Manchester United has been underlined by a fans poll on TEAMtalk that shows only 13% would like him to see out his contract at Old Trafford.
The pressure on the Dutchman has been ramped up in the past fortnight after the club crashed out of the Champions League at the group stages, before successive defeats in the Premier League to lowly Bournemouth and Norwich saw the club drop out of the top four.
And, a fans poll on TEAMtalk this weekend said only 13% of supporters wanted the Dutchman to see out the remaining 18 months on his contract at the club.
With former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho among the favourites to take over at Old Trafford amid claims he’s waiting for the hotseat to become vacant, a staggering 57% want United to sack Van Gaal now and replace him with the Portuguese.
The third option to United fans was to allow Van Gaal to see out the season at Old Trafford and replace him with outgoing Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola. The German side confirmed on Sunday that the Spanish coach would be leaving the Allianz Arena at the end of the season and would be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
Guardiola has been heavily linked with the Manchester City job after a strong hint from current incumbent Manuel Pellegrini on Sunday, but 30% of United fans would like the former Barcelona coach in charge at Old Trafford instead come the summer.
Leicester’s continued fine form this season means they now hold a nine-point gap over Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
