Fletcher unsure of Sunderland future

Fletcher’s header at Chelsea on the last day of the season was his first goal for seven months and only his eighth in an injury-hit two years for Sunderland.

With Dick Advocaat now confirmed as the club’s new manager for next season, the Black Cats must decide on their plans for the striker.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Fletcher told the Sunderland Echo.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been able to have a summer without coming back from injury. It’s good to playing in some internationals.

“It’ll be up to the manager to decide whether he wants to keep me or not.

“We’ll wait and see.”

Advocaat has spoken of the need to sign “five or six good players” good players this summer, a statement Fletcher agrees with.

“I don’t think it’s quantity, because we have got a big squad,” he added.

“I think it’s like the previous manager said, we just need to add a bit of quality to the squad.

“The sooner we can do it the better.”
