Nick Powell will be allowed to leave Old Trafford next year after not featuring for Manchester United for 14 months, according to reports.
The 21-year-old forward, who signed from Crewe for a fee rising to £6million back in June 2012, has failed to live up expectations after signing a four-year contract under Sir Alex Ferguson.
When he signed three years ago, Ferguson said: “He is an exceptional talent and has been schooled well at Crewe.”

Powell returned to training last week after recovering from knee surgery, but he has become somewhat of a forgotten man at Old Trafford after a host of injury problems.
The Crewe-born forward has not appeared for United since the disastrous 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup last August and he has not played for United in the league for three years.
Powell’s last competitive game was for Leicester, where he was on loan, against Manchester City in December, but he was sent back to United halfway through a season-long loan in January this year after playing just 40 minutes for the Foxes.
Nigel Pearson was not believed to be happy with Powell’s attitude or time keeping and Louis van Gaal has yet to be convinced by the player, who is reportedly ‘disillusioned with football’, according to the Sunday People.
Powell was sent to Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan by previous boss David Moyes in 2013/14 and he scored an impressive 12 goals in 41 games and looked to be making progress. However, he was soon shipped out to Leicester by Van Gaal last season after the chastening cup defeat at League One side MK Dons.
Powell, who has one year left on his contract, has been included in Louis van Gaal’s Premier League and Champions League squad this season despite not being handed a squad number, but his United career looks over and he will move on in 2016.
