Fernando Torres says there is a desire from both parties to reach an agreement to keep the striker at Atletico Madrid beyond the summer.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward has spent the last two season son loan at Atletico from AC Milan. Torres’ contract at the San Siro is due to expire this summer, making the 32-year-old a free agent.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo spoke on Wednesday about the Champions League finalists’ desire to keep their home-grown talent at the Calderon.
“We want him to stay,” Cerezo said.
“We are working on it to create many more chapters in our history together.”
Torres confirmed he also wishes to reach an agreement to stay in Madrid, but said fans should be patient as negotiations continue.
“We are talking, we are working on it, but things take their course.” he said.
“It is not something that fans should worry about, because the two sides want the same thing.”
