Brendan Galloway: Making good progress at Goodison

Everton defender Brendan Galloway’s rapid rise into the first team is set to be rewarded with a new contract at Goodison Park.

The 19-year-old has impressed filling in at left-back this season and manager Roberto Martinez believes it is time to formally recognise his progress.

Galloway signed a four-year deal when he moved from MK Dons in August 2014, but he will now be offered improved terms.

“What is true as well is that he’s had a quicker development than we expected – and that is down to his own personality and character,” said Martinez.

“Nothing fazes him, he’s always ready to improve, always ready to perform and, at the football club, we will always do the same thing; when we see a player get ahead of his programme, that needs to be rewarded.

“That’s not going to be the last contract, it’s just going to be the next step, and we expect Brendan to carry on with his development over the course of the season and in years to come.”

Martinez is still waiting to hear injury updates on midfielder Muhamed Besic and defender Seamus Coleman after both were forced off in Saturday’s win over Chelsea.

“I think Seamus felt a lot better than Mo but we’re going to get the scans done today so we have a clear idea,” he told evertontv.

“I don’t think it looks as bad as we feared once it happened but we’ll get more information as the week goes on and we’ll see how long a period we’re looking at for the two players.

“They were the only two to pick up knocks against Chelsea, so everyone else from that squad is fully fit for the weekend.”

Martinez was also boosted by summer signing Leandro Rodriguez, the 22-year-old brought in from River Plate Uruguay for £500,000, scoring a second goal in as many matches for the under-21s.

First-team midfielders Leon Osman and Darron Gibson also made their comebacks from injury in the 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland on Monday night, as did goalkeeper Joel Robles.ur-year deal when he moved from MK Dons in August 2014, but he will now be offered improved terms.
