Remi Garde admitted Aston Villa were on the back foot after conceding so early in their FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Manchester City.
Kelechi Iheanacho hit a hat-trick and Raheem Sterling also got on the scoresheet as City romped to a 4-0 victory at Villa Park.
Garde told BBC Sport: “When you concede so early, it is very difficult. We played Manchester City and it was very difficult and not balanced. After the first two goals, they played quietly and we did not have much danger to cope with.
“The penalty was a bit harsh but it is done. I don’t want to blame the team too much and we have important games coming up. Even if City had their best players on the bench, it was still a very good side. We have to be 100 per cent every game.
“Any incomings? I recommended to sign players who would be helpful for us in the race to stay in the Premier League. If I can have some new faces and new bodies, it would be the best for everybody.”
