Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard revealed their predictions for the Premier League top four ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield.

Lampard picked a top four without Liverpool but admitted: “I love Liverpool, I love watching them, I love Klopp, his personality and the way they play…I just think that over the course of the season they will need more, and that’s why they’re not making my top four.”

Lampard predictably picked former clubs Chelsea and Manchester City as the front-runners, while Gerrard put his old club Liverpool in second spot.

He explained: “Last year against all the top six, I thought they were excellent. They had a very good record and in pre-season they are looking very strong. As I say, there are a few weeks to go and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jurgen’s got a couple of cards up his sleeve.

“Liverpool to me look really, really dangerous, especially on the counter-attack. If he can learn to break teams down at home and be better defensively, I think they are a force.”

Former Tottenham and England boss Glenn Hoddle picked five teams as he was split between the two north London giants.

Frank Lampard’s top four: Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham

Steven Gerrard’s top four: Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea

Glenn Hoddle’s top four: Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham/Arsenal
