Steven Gerrard: Linked with Celtic move

Steven Gerrard is set to hang up his boots later this year and is planning a return to Liverpool in a coaching capacity.

The former Liverpool captain, who has recently spent some time training with his old club and experiencing Jurgen Klopp’s training methods, has admitted that this year could be his final year as a player.

Gerrard, 35, announced he was leaving Liverpool last January and penned an 18-month deal with the LA Galaxy, but with that contract set to expire at the end of 2016 Gerrard is open to offers.

“I’m not 100% sure but I think it will probably be my last year as a player,” Gerrard told the Daily Telegraph.

“I have had a chat with Klopp. I haven’t had an offer as such, but the club have let me know they are keen for me to come back but there hasn’t been a conversation where they have said: ‘We want you to do this, we want you to do that’.

“They have welcomed me back in. I am always going to be biased towards Liverpool and the FA and basically when I am back home I am going to carry on with my punditry work and try and move around clubs and gain more experience, going to watch managers and learning more.

“I am basically available from November, December 2016. Everyone in the football world will know I am available and hopefully I will be 75 per cent into my coaching badges.”

Gerrard said he regretted not beginning work towards his badges earlier in his playing career, and said he had urged the Football Association to do more to engage its most experienced players in order to keep them in the game.

“I have regrets I didn’t start my coaching badges at 21-22,” he said. “All that time wasted in hotels as an England player when I’ve been bored and was watching ‘The Office’ and ‘The Sopranos’.

“I wish I’d done my CBA (coaching) licence then so I’d be doing my pro-licence now. I know many players get to the end of their careers, get handed a thick C licence pack and say, ‘Nah, I’m not doing that.’ That’s 70/80 caps and 600 career appearances and he is just going nah. He could have had it done.

“I had a meeting with the FA and said these players that are earning a certain amount of caps – don’t let them go away from the game, do more to keep them involved.”

If Gerrard has vision to become a Manager for Liverpool someday, then this would be a good starting point for him.

I would love to have a boot room with him involved and perhaps other former Liverpool greats to join him.

This site is shocking now? We know the ED is clearly a Liverpool fan but come on! Out of the 5 main headlines 4 are all about Liverpool? It’s like this everyday, Why not rename the site Liverpoolteamtalk.com?

Shame it won’t be as a player but Stevie G will be 36 in May and his playing days bar perhaps a sub appearances here and there are probably beyond him in the PL.

by all means drop by if you can… but lets look at it this way… right now the Liverpool comment section has over 5000 comments and almost 400 topics, while the Newcastle section has about 500 comments in 50 topics…

Its no wonder that the site caters to the Liverpool support, thats what get the hits on the site.

We have a heavy injury crisis & a midfielder training with us who can still do a job as a midfielder, striker, defender & in the dressing room. He is ready to play. We should tempt LA Galaxy with a nominal bid. We can’t buy his experience in this window & the team selection today will tell anyone that he is needed at the club right now to the end of the season. Come on Jurgen YNWA

Gerrard is a valuable player to LA Galaxy probably their most valuable and they won’t be tempted to sell him back to Liverpool for a nominal fee,and from Stevie G’s perspective he’s already left once and is not the player he once was would he want to come back and play for Liverpool again in those circumstances from what he has said previously it seems not.

Time to move on I suspect and wait for Stevie to come back in a Coaching role.

Stranger things have happened. He has trained with our squad throughout this period so Klopp will have seen what he can still offer. Gerrard can see the situation we are in with injuries. We are recalling virtually all our loanees. Had it have been a loan to LA Galaxy Gerrard would be back. We are scouring the market for cover to bring in this window. January is a notoriously difficult time to bring in quality, experienced players. Signing him back might well be moving on if there are no better alternatives for the club. Lets see if Gerrard has unfinished business as a player with LFC ?

Sanji, you are somewhat missing the point Gerrard is an LA Galaxy player and a very important player to LA Galaxy and they and only they will decide if they were prepared to sell him back to Liverpool whether Gerrard can see the position Liverpool are in injury wise or not is irrelevant only LA Galaxy could agree to sell him back and I very much doubt that they will agree to sell him back to Liverpool because of his importance to Galaxy.

But as you say stranger things have happened youll be looking to wheel Stevie G out in his wheel chair one day! Now that would be strange. Lol.
