LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena has branded the prospect of Steven Gerrard returning to play for Liverpool as ‘ridiculous’.
Gerrard, 35, is currently in the Major League Soccer off-season after the Galaxy were bundled out of the play-offs 3-2 by Seattle Sounders last week and he was reportedly set for a temporary return to action for his former club, according to The Independent.
However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp quickly dismissed those claims at his pre-match Europa League press conference on Wednesday evening and now Arena, who has rejected the idea of any of his star players going out on loan during the MLS close season, has also rebuffed the idea.
“I don’t believe it is at all accurate. There’s not any truth to any of this. It’s ridiculous,” said Arena.
Klopp on Wednesday said: “I spoke with Stevie. One phone call and a few messages. He is a very nice guy I must say.
“He’s a Liverpool legend, of course, but his contract as I know is in the USA.
“But now his break starts and I told him ‘When you are here of course you can come whenever you want, you can train with us if you think it is good for you.
“Of course our doors are always open for him, that is clear. But nothing else.”
