Bayern Munich have branded reports that Liverpool are set to sign Mario Gotze as “new nonsense”.

German publication Bild claimed  Jurgen Klopp wanted a reunion with the 23-year-old, who played under him at Borussia Dortmund, despite the the player being injured.

But Gotze, who has been sidelined since October with a groin problem, is focused on returning to the Bayern first team and sporting director Matthias Sammer has rebuffed the speculation.

Sammer told Sport Bild: “Every day new nonsense comes along. That is all I am going to say on this.”

Gotz, who has been continuing his rehabilitation work at Bayern’s training camp in Doha, said in November he was aiming for a return in the second-half of the season.

“Right now I am feeling fine, everything is going as planned. The rehab is now starting and the muscle has healed.

“So I hope I will be back for the second half of the season and start with the team like the other players in January.”

Sammer though has cooled hopes Bayern can welcome him back soon and stressed “we must not take any risks” with the Germany international’s fitness.

“We need to get into the best possible condition, physically and mentally, as soon as possible,” added Sammer.
