Antoine Griezmann called Jose Mourinho on Thursday to explain why he won’t be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer, it is claimed.
It emerged on Thursday that Griezmann’s proposed move to Manchester United had broken down, with United briefing journalists that it was they who had changed their mind, supposedly due to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury, which occurred in April.
But reports have emerged since suggesting it was Griezmann who’d had a change of heart.
And The Independent reports the France striker called Mourinho personally on Thursday to explain his motives.
It seems Atletico were successful in persuading Griezmann to stay, especially in light of their appeal against a FIFA transfer ban being upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The 26-year-old is known to be loyal to manager Diego Simeone, who would not be able to replace his star man until January at the earliest.
United are said to retain an interest in Griezmann, but Mourinho has switched his focus to other targets, with a centre-forward now the priority.
