Antoine Griezmann: Joins the Pokemon Go craze

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has reportedly told friends that he will reject offers from the Premier League in favour of a stay at the Vicente Calderon.

The Champions League finalist has been linked with a host of different clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.

However the Telegraph reports that any attempts to sign the 25-year-old will be in vain as Griezmann is happy at Atletico and is not willing to move.

The Frenchman is tipped by many to have a good tournament in his home country during the 2016 European Championships, and the £63million release clause in his current contract has not been enough to deter potential suitors.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial stated earlier this month that Manchester United were willing to meet this valuation in order to capture the striker.

His deal runs until 2020, and in an interview in March he expressed his desire to stay with coach Diego Simeone in Madrid.

“I only think about that and I have no desire to leave Atletico.”

“He lets me play with a lot of freedom, even when I have to drop back and help the defence,” added Griezmann. “It requires a great effort from every member of the team and we need to put in a lot of intensity in our training sessions.

“Preparing properly in July and August is also very important. Our strength lies in the power of the team. Physically, we are ending games better now than we were before and that’s all down to the hard work we have done in advance.

“And I have learned a lot from [Simeone] in terms of tactics – both defensively and in attack. I’ve learned a lot and I hope to continue learning more.”

Atletico Madrid were set to offer a new contract to Griezmann in January according to Spanish agency AS, though nothing ever materialised of the deal that was supposed to increase his buyout clause to €100million.
