According to reports, incoming Man City boss Pep Guardiola is desperate to find out whether Jose Mourinho is set to become the manager of Manchester United.
Guardiola, 45, will take over the reins at The Etihad in the summer and he is eager to find out if his opposite number across the City will be the Portuguese boss, whom he locked horns with for Barcelona when Mourinho was in charge at rivals Real Madrid.
The Sun reports Guardiola is not worried by the prospect of facing Mourinho again, but Man City’s manager-elect has been asking friends to find out if the Special One has a deal with neighbours United.
As quoted by The Sun, a friend admitted: “Pep wants to know if Mourinho has an agreement with Manchester United.
“Is he worried? Not really, but it will make life interesting if Jose is there.”
Mourinho recently revealed he will start a new job in July and he is the bookies’ favourite to replace the under-fire Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
And it was the former Porto and Chelsea boss that ended Guardiola’s run of trophies in Spain after Mourinho’s Real won the Primera Liga title with a record haul of 100 points in 2012.
The Catalan announced his Nou Camp departure exit several weeks before the end of a season, citing the exhausting workload.
“The demands have been great and I have not been able to rest much,” Guardiola claimed at the time.
“I have to recover and the only way I can do that is by distancing myself. Otherwise, we would have ended up damaging each other.”
