Gunners hit back as Reds lose again

Liverpool dominated the first half and after seeing two penalty appeals waved away, took a deserved lead after 41 minutes when Manuel Almunia flapped at Fabio Aurelio’s free-kick and Dirk Kuyt controlled the ball before firing home from 12 yards.

But a half-time team-talk from Arsene Wenger inspired Arsenal and they were back on level terms on 51 minutes when Samir Nasri’s cross was turned into his own goal by Glen Johnson.

And eight minutes later, Andrey Arshavin stunned Anfield with a stunning 18-yard shot which flew past Pepe Reina.

Liverpool were poor in searching for an equaliser and Arsenal easily held on to move up to third and six points behind leaders Chelsea. Liverpool stay seventh.
