Eden Hazard has been discussing his new contract, joking that Chelsea won’t be able to afford Romelu Lukaku if he renews his deal.
Hazard has enjoyed a standout campaign for the Blues in their Premier League-title winning season, scoring 16 goals and assisting a further five in 36 Premier League games.
The Belgian’s current contract at Stamford Bridge runs to summer 2020, and he is expected to hold negotiations with the club amid interest from Real Madrid.
But the forward has joked that his new deal could be so expensive that the champions could no longer afford to sign priority target Lukaku.
“At this moment, there’s nothing on the table. We’re waiting for the end of the season,” he told Het Nieuwsblad. “I’m still calm. We will talk. If not, then we’ll see.
“If I sign a new contract, There may not be enough money left to get Romelu! No, I’m kidding. Whoever comes, we will be ready for the new season.”
When asked if he could be tempted to leave Chelsea, Hazard added: “I don’t know, I’m happy at the club. When I’m back from the national team, we’ll have time to talk and see what’s possible.”
