The 19-year-old has struggled with a knee problem since the start of the season and Locke will wait as long as possible before deciding whether to include him.

Attacking midfielder Ryan Stevenson remains a long-term absentee for the Jambos as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

Aberdeen will arrive in Edinburgh with problems of their own – goalkeeper Jamie Langfield is suspended following his red card against Celtic last weekend, providing former Manchester City stopper Nicky Weaver with a chance to deputise.

Midfielders Barry Robson and Chris Clark are still sidelined by knee problems, but defender Andrew Considine is not far away from making a full recovery from his broken toe.
