Thierry Henry has said Arsenal must get Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to commit, but said the club would not “die” if they did leave.
The star duo have just 18 months remaining on their current Gunners contracts, sparking speculation that they will both move on in the near future.
However, Arsenal legend Henry said that the main aim for Arsene Wenger is to build a team around them once negotiations have hopefully reached a positive conclusion.
“If you want to build a future, they are the future of the club. You want to build a team around those guys,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“Mesut Ozil has been there for a little while, Alexis Sanchez arrived after but when you have more than just a chance to win it (the title).
“Arsenal will always be Arsenal. It was in our time and always will be but you want have those guys around to win the title.”
Henry did add, though, that life would go on if they were both to leave Arsenal.
He said: “Is it going to be a blow if they leave? Yes, it’s going to be massive but the club is not going to die just because they leave. Having said that, they have to stay!”
