Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, was operated on in Houston on Thursday after he was injured in a friendly between Mexico and Honduras.
‘Chicharito’ will miss the upcoming Gold Cup because of the injury, being played in the United States and Canada between July 7 and 26.
“Javier Hernandez’s surgery ended successfully. The player is in post-operative recovery,” read a statement from the Mexican football federation.
The squad’s physician Gerardo Aguilar added: “Javier Hernandez underwent a successful operation this morning… He had two plates inserted in his right collarbone fixed with six screws.
“The prognosis is quite acceptable and there are very high expectations for his rapid recovery, which is expected will be four weeks.”
The 27-year-old has scored 59 goals in 154 outings for United and has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, including talk of a move to Serie A with Juventus or Inter Milan.
