Heroes and Zeros: City stars shine despite defeat; Chelsea revival

Eliaquim Mangala: Keeps a close eye on Theo Walcott

Eliaquim Mangala: Keeps a close eye on Theo Walcott

Manchester City trio Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Eliaquim Mangala were among the highest-rated players of the weekend, while Chelsea duo Oscar and Pedro also caught the eye.

City’s stars might have had a roasting on our player ratings on Monday night following their defeat at Arsenal, but Aguero (100% pass completition rate), De Bruyne (five chances created) and Mangala (96.6% pass completion rate) appeared to excel.

Chelsea’s players, meanwhile, have come in for some serious criticism this season but they kicked-off the post-Jose Mourinho era with a 3-1 win over Sunderland, with the likes of Oscar and Pedro both among the highest rated performers of the weekend.

Mourinho’s possible appointment at Manchester United came up for discussion in our Monday Verdict – and the club’s struggles appear to widening with Anthony Martial – shunted to a wing position again, much to the frustration of Thierry Henry – being dispossessed a league-high six times against Norwich.

The weekend stats also make bad reading for Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell, with the one-time England player misplacing 48.4% of his passes against Chelsea.

Here, WhoScored.com look at the players that played the biggest roles for their teams over the weekend – and those that were more of a hindrance than a help…
