Ander Herrera: Vying for a Manchester United recall

Ander Herrera says “leader” Wayne Rooney must be “enjoyed” by Manchester United, who he says are a match for any team on their day.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday, beating Everton 3-0 courtesy of a solid display at Goodison Park.

Herrera, who scored the second goal for United, said he was pleased with the way his team-mates had reacted to the defeat to Arsenal before the international break.

“If we keep playing like this we can beat everybody,” Herrera told United’s official website.

We showed everyone that Manchester United are here and that we are here to fight for everything.

“When you lose the way that we did against Arsenal then we couldn’t wait for this game. I think the first 20 minutes today were fantastic and this was the way we had to react. When you have to fight for everything you have to play like we did.”

Herrera also had words of encouragement for captain Rooney, who ended a 17-game stretch without an away goal in the Premier League with a strike against his former club.

He did great work for us. He is very important for England and also for us,” continued the Spaniard.

“When you have your captain in good form, scoring goals and if he is happy then it is very important for us.

“He is our leader, the best English player in history, so we have to enjoy him and it is going to help us a lot.”
