Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera says that fans must keep the faith in their team, claiming the club are “on the right road”.
Louis van Gaal’s side are on a current run of 12 points from 10 league matches, a streak stretching back to mid-April.
Worse still, United have scored only six goals in that time.
However, Herrera believes that United are on the right track, and will challenge for trophies this season.
“I want the fans to believe in us,” said Herrera, who has been restored to the side after spending the early matches on the bench. “In the first four matches, it was only against Newcastle that we failed to score, and even then we created six or seven clear chances. So I think we have shown that we are on the right road.
“We beat Brugge 7-1 on aggregate and they are not an easy team, and now we are through to the Champions League group stages we want to play for everything.
“We are Manchester United and we know we must do much better than last season.
“The most important thing now is to beat Liverpool. If we beat them, we will be closer to [leaders] Manchester City and that is our goal – to be as close as possible to the trophies.
“So I think we will learn from it, but we have to be realistic and we are on the right road.”
