Hibs clinch second place

Martin Boyle and Jason Cummings scored in the first-half before Dominique Malonga wrapped it up and Hibs will now attempt to gain promotion to the Scottish Premiership via the play-offs.

By finishing second they have avoided the play-off which takes place between the third and fourth place finishers.

Hibs made the perfect start, taking the lead in just the fifth minute when Boyle exchanged passes with Scott Allan and then shot low into the corner of the net.

The hosts attempted to respond and almost equalised but Craig Sibbald headed just wide from a Tom Taiwo cross.

Falkirk continued to enjoy a decent spell and Alston volleyed over before Taiwo’s shot was deflected behind for a corner.

But Hibernian always looked dangerous going forward and Jamie MacDonald had to pull off a great save to deny Malonga.

And the visitors doubled their lead five minutes before half-time when Allan crossed from the left, Falkirk failed to clear, and Cummings was able to round MacDonald before tapping into an empty net.

The match got a little feisty after the break and Malonga went into the book for a foul on David McCracken.

Cummings then went close to bagging his second of the day but his header was saved by MacDonald.

Will Vaulks and Blair Alston tried their luck at the other end but both shot just wide of the target.

Scott Robertson of Hibs then went close with a low shot from the edge of the box at the other end and MacDonald got down quickly to save.

But Hibs wrapped it up 12 minutes from time when they broke away after a corner and Cummings fed Malonga, who had all the time in the world to advance into the box before calmly shooting past MacDonald.
