Tim Howard’s move to Colorado Rapids is understood to have hit a stumbling block over the goalkeeper’s wage demands.
According to reports in the Liverpool Echo, USA international Howard wants a four-year deal worth £70,000-a-week to return to his homeland.
The 36-year-old has fallen out of favour at Goodison Park in recent weeks after a number of errors over the past two seasons.
Earlier this month Everton boss Roberto Martinez confirmed Spanish stopper Joel Robles is now the Toffees’ No. 1 and refused to comment on Howard’s future at the club.
Martinez has been linked with a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in recent weeks, although such a deal may depend on offloading former Manchester United man Howard.
