Pochettino delivers positive update over Harry Kane fitness

Tottenham look set to be boosted by the return of Harry Kane for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid at Wembley.

Kane suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of the recent win over Liverpool and missed the weekend defeat at Manchester United.

However, the England star is back in training and showed no signs of discomfort as he took part in a light session at Hotspur Way.

The striker was able to complete some short sprints and basic passing drills while at one point he made a hand gesture appearing to suggest he felt fine.

His return at Wembley would represent a massive boost for Tottenham given Kane has scored five goals in three European games so far, and according to Bet365 he is priced at just 2/1 as the heavy favourite to retain the Golden Boot this season.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was happy to see his star man back, saying: “We are really confident. Maybe it’s possible but I don’t want to say 100 per cent as we have one more day.

“Yesterday and today was good though. We can definitely (beat Real) if he’s out. That’s our intention with or without Harry Kane when we go out on the pitch tomorrow.

“For me, Harry is one of the best No.9s in the world, if not the best and I wouldn’t swap him for anybody.”

Erik Lamela was also out with the rest of the squad, with the winger still yet to make an appearance since recovering from a problem with his hips. Lamela has not played since October last year.

Tottenham are level on seven points with Real Madrid in Group H after the sides shared a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this month.
