Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Granit Xhaka, after both the club and player admitted interest from external parties.
Borussia Monchengladbach confirmed on their website that they have had a concrete offer for the talented midfielder.
“There has been a specific offer for the Swiss midfielder [Xhaka].
“[We have] an agreement with the interested club but [it] is still pending.”
The fee that the German side are reportedly holding out for is £33.8million, though pressure to seal the deal before the European Championships may throw this price tag into jeopardy.
It now appears just a matter of time before the clubs agree on a deal, and the Swiss international admitted he would be open to an Arsenal move.
Speaking to Swiss television channel SRF, Xhaka said he is the “wrong person to ask” about the interest from Arsenal but admitted they are a club he could “absolutely” imagine playing for.
“Whether there are talks or not, the clubs ‘Gladbach and Arsenal know that, but as of now I am still a ‘Gladbach player. It might change in the next weeks or it might not change.”
He added: “There will definitely be a decision before the European Championship.”
